This versatile DIY is the perfect summertime craft that combines around-the-house items, with fresh herbs, and essential oils to keep summer nights bug-free. Read below to see all the materials you’ll need and a step-by-step tutorial to make this DIY Bug Repellent Outdoor Centerpiece using our 100% pure essential oils!

Materials Needed:

  • 2-3 Tall Glass Vase or Mason Jars
  • Floating Candles (1 for each)
  • Water

Ingredients Needed:

  • 2-3 Sprigs of Rosemary
  • 2-3 Sprigs of Lavender
  • 1 Medium Lemon
  • 10-15 Drops of Lemongrass Essential Oil
    • Lemongrass Essential Oil is well-known for its ability to repel insects, particularly mosquitoes. It contains citronellal, which is a natural compound that has been proven to deter mosquitoes. Besides its insect-repelling properties, lemongrass oil has a fresh, clean, and invigorating scent that can enhance the atmosphere of your outdoor space.
  • 10-15 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil
    • Lavender Essential Oil is effective against a variety of insects, including mosquitoes, flies, & moths. The smell of lavender is pleasant to humans but repels insects. It also has calming and relaxing properties, which can help create a serene environment for your outdoor gatherings.

Instructions:

  1. Gather your fresh herbs + slice your lemon into thin rounds.
  2. Place 1-2 sprigs of rosemary and lavender into each vase or mason jar.
  3. Fill them about three-quarters full with water.
  4. Add your essential oils: 10-15 drops of lemongrass essential oil and 10-15 drops of lavender essential oil. (adjust the quantities based on your preference for scent strength and the size of your jar)
  5. Gently place lemon slices on top of the water. They will float and add to the visual appeal of the vases/jars.
  6. Carefully place a floating candle on top of the water, ensuring it stays centered.

How to Use:

Light the candles just before your outdoor event begins. The heat from the candles will gently release the essential oils and scents from the herbs and citrus, enhancing their bug-repelling properties.

Enjoy this beautiful and functional centerpiece – we can’t wait to hear how many compliments you get!
